Lake and Property:

Zaca Lake is a naturally occurring 20-acre mineral spring lake, thought to have been formed about 10,000 after a landslide. The retreat has 450 acres of wooded, mountainous land, and adjoins thousands of acres of the Los Padres National Forest.

 

Zaca Lake Facts:
Zaca Lake is a year-round personal and group retreat facility. Located in the San Rafael Mountains, at an elevation of 2,300 feet, Zaca Lake is Southern California’s largest naturally occurring lake. Zaca Lake offers thousands of vertical feet of hiking trail winding for miles around five peaks above the lake. Zaca Peak, the tallest at 4,341 feet, stands over two unnamed crests of 3,868 feet and 3,668 feet, plus Wild Horse Mountain’s 3,659 feet and Lookout Mountain’s 3,490 feet. Zaca Lake is 46 feet at its deepest, with a mean depth of 31.4 feet, and purportedly has a "bottomless" underwater crevice, which once was found un-measurable with 1,000 feet of line and a weight.

Wildlife
Zaca Lake is a sanctuary to hundreds of different birds and animals. Its 20-acre mineral spring lake is shared by black bear, deer, mountain lion, bobcat, coyote, gray fox, striped and spotted skunk, badger, Pacific chorus frog, southern alligator lizard and wild turkey, among other animals
Zaca Lake’s winged visitors and residents include turkey, golden eagle, bald eagle, great blue heron, peregrine falcon, kestrel, hummingbird, harrier, hawk, quail, coot, owl, sandpiper, woodpecker, flycatcher, kingbird, mockingbird, thrasher, thrush, wren, cowbird, redstart and warbler.
